Family Background:
Penius’ mother has persevered through many challenges to provide her children with opportunities. Ms. Mwale's mother died when she was very young. She then stayed with her father until he died when she was 18 years old. No one was around to take care of her, and she dropped out of school before the end of Grade 9. She did not write her Grade 9 exams and started looking for work instead.
Ms. Mwale has been employed as a maid with irregularity since that time and she been a maid in various homes. She has three children, and all attend Chibelo Basic School. The oldest is a girl in grade Eight. Penius is the second born. All three children live with Ms. Mwale and she provides for them.
Penius’ mother earns approximately $50 per month and is struggling to meet the school fees and other needs of her family.
Penius' Education:
Penius has earned an outstanding academic record in primary school. He has been at Chibelo School since Grade 1 and has earned the first position in every single year since Grade One.
Penius is extremely hard working and has learned the value of his determination. When he was in Grade Six, he, for a brief period, became number six. He cried a lot, but vowed again to study hard. Ever since then, he has retained his first position.
His favorite subjects are English and Math. His highest grades are in English. The teachers are Penius’ favorite part of Chibelo School.
Penius' Interests:
Penius loves to read story books and make friends. He also likes to dance, draw, and play basketball. Additionally, he loves to read scripture books, especially the Bible. His goal in life is to become an engineer. In his application, Penius wrote that he would like a scholarship because he wants to complete his education.
What his teachers think of him:
His teachers say that Penius is among the best pupils in the entire grade. Penius is a good boy who should go far in his studies if he is supported financially. He is particularly determined and has a strong ability to express himself freely.His teachers believe that, with financial support, Penius is likely to go to university.
